Microsoft Exchange, Unravelled.

Well, at about 3am on Tuesday morning, i solved my backup/restore solution with microsoft exchange.

It actually ended up being an issue with the restore/backup software over writing a log file, you see, it could not write to it, because of corruption, it's supposed to be able to, but it failed, 4 times! the major issue was the speed at which it was moving the recovery, 18+ hours to pull a 118gb file. THAT problem is still not solved, nobody can figure out why the recovery went so slow?

What i have learned from this is 2 fold. 1. I will begin testing backup files every week, without question, it's the only way to go. 2. I'm going to learn and master linux, because after this "Life", I'm out, no more Microsoft, i won't do it, i won't have it.

Word.

Saturday, and the recovery continues

Alright, now it's Saturday, and my "Exchange recovery", has been going for 22 hours, it MAY finish in the next 2-4 hours. MY GOD, a 25 hour or so recovery! I guess it's just good if it works, but that's a long time!

Now is the time on Sprokets when we DANCE!

Nightmares upon Nightmares

Sometimes i wonder why i do this IT stuff for a living. It's driving me insane! Late last night, or early this morning, it appears that there was a large power outage near our location, 2+ hours, which is far to long for the Batter backup to hold up everything. When the battery went down, and the Exchange server took a dump, it corrupted the Mail database, and now i'm going through the possibly 6 hour process of recovering that database properly (No guarantees from Microsoft).

I should have never installed an Exchange server, i should have forced them to use a Linux mail server (sendmail, procmail, whatever), they are far more reliable, and it just makes sense. If i ever make it out of this place, and go somewhere else that's in need of a mail server, i will never look Microsoft's way, i swear.

Now i just want to gun them down.

why am i this way every day lately? It really makes me wish that i had gone into Law enforcement, because at least on days like this, i could be beating up a Vagrant, or a minority, and all would be well.....

Ug.

Good lord

I've soooo had enough today. I planned this damned update for some vendor software, and it ended up causing me to update 2 other pieces of software. The update started at 8am, and is pulling me through 1pm now, with no end in sight. Let me say it again, i hate Microsoft, and i hate VENDORS.

Um yeah... I want WS tickets too

Since this is my daily bitch session, here goes:

Yesterday i got a cell phone call from one of the offices of our company. It was a call from an individual that's been around for a while, is pretty damn computer illiterate, and annoying.

Message goes like this: Um, i need you to call me, because my browser is saying i need "cookies" enabled, I'm trying to order World Series Tickets (Rockies 07), and it's just not working!

2 Problems here. Problem #1, the Rockies tickets did not go on sale until Monday morning at 10am, so he whiffed on that one. Problem #2, why in the hell would i help you get your browser to connect, for personal purposes, on a sunday, from the office? WHY?

There are alot of inconsiderate assholes running around out there. Are you one of them?

F**King Global catalog server

All day, that's how long it took me to figure out the reason my work mail server was broken.

It just kills me, MICROSOFT.

When it came down to it, the server set as the "global catalog server" was down, and if Microsoft exchange cannot access this server, it will not "mount" the mailboxes! YAY.

Such bull.

So it's fixed now, but i want to die, wasted all day!

Why can't i get my S**T straight?

Why can't i seem to stick to my workouts and stuff? God, i can't hang on, it's like I'll have a good, week, then a bad week, i can't string together good weeks! It's killing me, i feel like i need to get it together, and at 32, now is the time. It's driving me insane.

On, a Lighter note, i took the Gangreen Chameleon for a ride to work yesterday (26) miles, pretty damn smooth, but i apparently did not adjust the front derailer very well, so i could not get into top gear, so i had to cruise alot of the way home. Kenda K-rad tires are like a dream, i should have picked thoes up years ago, sheesh!

Coffee time.

Rain Rain

So i built my new bike, and it's been cold raining the last 2 days. So no ride, maybe i'll get a street ride into work next week.

On another note, i completed the install of EMC Avamar into our system. This is a backup/deduplication solution that Gathers all network data from all systems, creates a central repository, compares, and get's rid of duplicate information, then it replicates itself to an offsite server. And Viola, we have a complete, state of the art backup system. I've been waiting about 4 years for this, so it's very welcome, no more tapes, no more relying on old systems to backup data. Now we have a trustworthy, reliable system.

Enough for now, maybe some rainy pics tomorrow.

My new Ride

Well, for a long time i have been after a Santa Cruz bike. A couple of weeks ago a aquired the frame i wanted, an 07 Chameleon on closeout, in "Gangreen". I finished it today, adjusted, and she's mostly ready to go. Rides like a Green dream. The weeks and months ahead will determine if it's as great as everyone always said. Yeah.

The interviews begin, or do they?

So here i am, attempting to hire for the open position in my department. I had this gentleman coming in this morning at 8am, i purposefully got here 1 hour before, so i could prep, go over his resume, etc. He didn't show up, didn't call, nothing. I suppose had he showed up at 8:15, i would not have interviewed him anyway. At least Call! Scrub...

From limon, with?

Um, yeah. I'm in Beautiful Limon Colorado Today. We happen to have a Bank branch here, and i had to come out to fix up some stuff.

The drive is always great, 2 hours of Plains, YAY!

As it turns out, the "broken" equipment in question was not broken at all, but said user had a personal heater plugged into the same receptacle as their computer, hence causing the computer to "shut down" randomly. (these are the things i need to know!).

Enough for now, leaving Limon shortly, maybe I'll stop at the big M and have some cancer fries on the way oooot.
